PSG were far from their best, but they won again. On Saturday night at the Parc des Princes, in Ligue 1 matchday 10, Paris beat Troyes 1-0 thanks to an Illia Zabarnyi header just before half-time. It was their eleventh straight win in all competitions. A few hours earlier, Paris FC won 1-0 at Auxerre through Lassine Sinayoko. The upshot: two Paris clubs sit first and second in the table, three points apart.
Zabarnyi rescues a hard night
Paris could have settled it in minutes. Senny Mayulu hit the woodwork twice in the first six minutes, first with a deflected shot from the edge of the box, then with an angled effort after a pass from Désiré Doué. After that, Troyes goalkeeper Hillel Konaté took centre stage. He made save after save, including two from Ferran Torres, and kept his side in the game for a long time.
The breakthrough came in the 39th minute. Mayulu again, with a cross from the left, and Zabarnyi rose to head into the far corner. The Ukrainian centre-back, usually busy stopping strikers, made the difference at the other end this time.
Paris had 73 percent of the ball and 15 shots to Troyes' 8. Warren Zaïre-Emery headed just past the post on the hour, and Mayulu tried his luck from distance late on. The second goal never came.
Troyes thought they had levelled
Troyes did not come to Paris just to defend. Renaud Ripart went close twice, and Matvey Safonov had to keep out an Ismael Boura header. With around seven minutes left, the Parc held its breath: from a corner, Safonov punched away an Idrissa Soukouna shot and Lucas Maronnier forced the ball in. The goal was ruled out for offside, and PSG survived.
Troyes leave with nothing but a solid display. Troyes stay 16th on 8 points (2 wins, 2 draws, 6 defeats) with a goal difference of -10. The week before, they had beaten fellow strugglers Le Mans.
Sinayoko punishes his old club
Paris FC keep rolling. At the Stade de l'Abbé-Deschamps, they suffered in the first half. Auxerre thought they had scored just before the break through Archer, from a Faivre cross, but VAR ruled it out for an Oppegard handball at the start of the move.
Shortly after the hour, Lassine Sinayoko made the difference. The Mali striker, who made his name at Auxerre, scored against his former club to win the game. Kevin Trapp then made a key save from Archer with a quarter of an hour left, and Koleosho nearly added a second.
With a second league win in a row, Paris FC move to 20 points and second place. Auxerre stay 14th with 10 points (3 wins, 1 draw, 6 defeats).
